சென்னை மாநகரில் 17 தியேட்டர்களில் வெளியிடப்பட்ட தசாவதாரம் முதல் மூன்று நாட்களிலேயே கிட்டத்தட்ட ஒரு கோடி ரூபாய் (சரியாக 97 லட்சத்து ஐம்பது ஐந்து ஆயிரத்து முன்னூற்றி தொண்ணூற்றி ஏழு ரூபாய்) வசூலித்து கோலிவுட், பாலிவுட், டோலிவுட், ஹாலிவுட் என்று எல்லாத் தரப்பு சினிமா வட்டாரத்தையும் மூக்கில் விரல் வைக்க செய்திருக்கிறது. சென்னை மாநகராட்சி இப்படத்துக்கு சிறப்பு அனுமதியாக ஒவ்வொரு தியேட்டரிலும் வாரநாட்களிலும் கூட ஐந்து காட்சிகள் நடத்திக்கொள்ள அனுமதி தந்திருக்கிறது. தமிழ் படங்களுக்கு அதிக வசூலை வாரித்தரும் மதுரை, கோவை சினிமா மாவட்டங்களிலும் இதே நிலைமை. இன்னமும் அதிக பிரிண்டுகள் போட்டு அதிக திரையரங்குகளில் வெளியிட தயாரிப்பாளர் தரப்பு யோசித்து வருகிறது.
தெலுங்கில் வெளியிடப்பட்ட தசாவதாரம் திரைப்படம் ஹைதராபாத் நகரில் 25 பெரிய திரையரங்குகளில் 34 திரைகளில் அரங்குநிறைந்த காட்சிகளாக ஓடி ஓபனிங் வசூலில் சாதனை ஏற்படுத்தியிருக்கிறது. ஆந்திராவின் நிஜாம் சினிமா ஏரியாவுக்கு மட்டுமே 45 பிரிண்டுகள் போடப்பட்டு வெளியாகியிருக்கிறது. கேரளாவிலும் 50 தியேட்டர்களில் தசாவதாரம் வெளியாகி அரங்குநிறைந்து ஓடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது.
படத்துக்கு இந்தியாவில் கிடைத்த வரவேற்பை விட அயல்நாடுகளில் அபார வரவேற்பு கிடைத்திருக்கிறது. அமெரிக்காவில் ஐம்பது நகரங்களில் வெளியிடப்பட்ட தசாவதாரம் அரங்கு நிறைந்த காட்சிகளாக ஓடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது. இதுவரை எந்த தென்னிந்தியப் படமும் அங்கே பெறாத வரவேற்பு இது. அமெரிக்காவில் தமிழில் வெளியிடப்பட்டதை விட தெலுங்கில் வெளியிடப்பட்ட தசாவதாரத்துக்கு கூட்டம் அலைமோதுகிறது. அமெரிக்க அதிபர் ஜார்ஷ் புஷ் வேடத்தில் கமலை காண்பதற்காக அமெரிக்கர்களும் தசாவதாரம் திரைப்படத்தை காண ஆவலோடு திரையரங்குக்கு வருகிறார்கள். ஆங்கிலத்தில் சப் டைட்டில் போடப்பட்டு அமெரிக்காவில் பல தியேட்டர்களில் இப்படம் திரையிடப்படுகிறது.
மலேசியாவில் 58 தியேட்டர்களில் வெளியான தசாவதாரம் முதல் வாரத்தில் 6 லட்சம் டாலர்களை வசூலித்திருக்கிறது. பிரிட்டனில் மிகக்குறைவான திரைகளில் வெளியிடப்பட்டிருந்தாலும், வெளியிடப்பட்ட முதல் மூன்று நாட்களில் இரண்டரை லட்சம் டாலர் வசூலித்திருக்கிறது. கனடாவில் வால்ட் டிஸ்னி நிறுவனம் இப்படத்தை வினியோகித்திருக்கிறது. முதல் தடவையாக தமிழ்படத்தை வாங்கி வெளியிட்டிருக்கும் வால்ட் டிஸ்னி நிறுவனம் படத்துக்கு கிடைத்திருக்கும் வரவேற்பை கண்டு மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்திருக்கிறது.
நியூயார்க் நகரில் ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபை அதிகாரிகளுக்காக டைம் ஸ்கொயர் தியேட்டரில் சிறப்புக் காட்சி திரையிடப்பட்டது. அமெரிக்க பத்திரிகையாளர்களும் படத்தை ஐநா அதிகாரிகளோடு கண்டு ரசித்துப் பாராட்டியிருக்கிறார்கள். அமெரிக்காவில் இப்படத்தை வெளியிட்டிருக்கும் நர்மதா டிராவல்ஸ் நிறுவனத்தார் இதற்கான ஏற்பாடுகளை செய்தார்கள்.
படம் வெளியிடப்பட்டதுமே நிறைய எதிர்மறை விமர்சனங்களையும் கமல்ஹாசன் சந்தித்தார். இந்தப்படத்தின் வசூல் விமர்சகர்களின் வாயை அடைக்கும், இப்படம் குறித்து இனி எதுவும் பேசமாட்டேன் என்று கமல் அப்போது தெரிவித்திருந்தார் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

Coming to the domestic market or rather the regional market, Kamal Hassan’s Dasavataram raked in Rs 3 crore in Chennai, and Rs 21 crore for the whole of Tamil Nadu. In the non-Southern markets, which got about 80% occupancy, the film grossed about Rs 60 lakh in the first three days of its running.
The film is anticipated to rake in close to Rs 100 crore as its theatrical revenue at the end of this week, as Chennai theatre owners state that the bookings for the next 10 days are house-full. If compared to Rajnikant’s Sivaji the film grossed over 25 crore in its first one week. Given the current figures, Kamal Hassan is currently one up.

Dasavatharam bombs at the box office
Where movies are concerned, in most cases the more hype about the movie, the less good it does to the film. Tamil movie Dasavatharam is no exception to this fact.
After all the Hype surrounding Kamal Hassan's newest movie --Dasavatharam--, it failed to live up to expectations and sank at the box office.
With all the hype surrounding the film and the billions spent on the movie's promotion one would have expected something better than just special effects and drama.
While the movie dampened the audience's expectations. the complexity of the storyline is what seems to dissapoint have disappointed them. But on a more positive note all Kamal Hassan fans do agree on one thing; Hassan should be given due credit for the effort he put into portraying ten different roles.
Dasavatharam opened to record breaking box office figures in Chennai but has not been able to keep up the interest levels of the audience over the weekend .
The big budget and special effects, the visual treat and drama and the claims of
'Dasavatharam' being a bigger success than Rajnikant's 'Sivaji' all seemed to hold the audience's flagging interests but ultimately the film turned out to be quite a let down.
This only goes on to show no matter how big a star or how deep the producer's pockets it's the story that finally has to make a mark on the audience.

It is about time Tamil cinema takes a giant leap and moves to the next level, and takes its audience with it. Kamalji aspired to do just that. Now the ball is in the audience´s court. It is make or break time for Tamil cinema. Are we ready to make movies about global issues, science and the future? Are we ready to be leaders in innovative ideas and science in our art forms? Are we ready for movies that make the audience think, be entertained and be inspired?
Looks like the audience have decide to make this abig hit and are ready to move to next step.
Come on guys. Face the truth. how long are you going to clap and whistle for the formulaic 5 songs and 5 fight stuff or the hero becoming rich in one song and taking revenge....

I think, these people are confusing with the news abt the failure of Thasavathar animation movie. Here in Singapore, Dasavatharam is screened in one more theatre (in Woodlands), and running with HOUSE FUL shows. As far as I know, the movie is good and going to be a historical hit. If u want to enjoy this movie fully, my suggestion is, see this movie for a second time.
I feel sorry for Rajkumar...
Dont be silly and dont be foolish too..

While Kamal’s ten-role extravaganza is registering packed houses all over India, the international market presents a rather mixed response. Last week saw Dasavatharam tumbling and falling from its 12th position to a worrisome 19th position at the UK box office although with marginal effect on the collections. The movie collected $426,770
during its second as opposed to Sivaji that collected $546,738 in its second week at the UK box office.

for the people like rajkumar and others who could not digest the success of dasavatharam, its mere waste to make them understand the real fact as they r fans of great grand mental.....so even if u write the numerical 1 and tell them its 1, they will say its zero.....cos thats their attitue problem...so lets not waste in making them understand...the whole world is started accepting the fact....he is searching the webpages who had published dasa's success and trying to find out anything favoring his side.....tat itself clearly shows his inability to digest the success of dasa.....come on yaar,,,,,,try to be a man,,,,,accept the fact.....if u say that "dasa is hit? then wait for kuselan it will break that record", then u r a true spirited man.....but simply making some false statements here will get u a nasty impression.....dont tend to be like women looking for some reasons to fight......
